Letter Sent to City Hall, EDC and New Haven Land Trust

A meeting with City Hall official Robert Smuts (CC'ed) took place today (see article)

Occupy is looking for the following:  

• A place to build some parmanent structures
• An option to engage in small-scale agriculture. 

New Haven has an opportunity to set itself apart from other cities around the country by approaching and addressing the issue of the OWS occupancy in a way that very few other cities have considered.  The city has offered to take Occupy organizers on a tour of the area, to determine an alternative space where permanent structures and small-scale agriculture would become possible.  I address this as the most positive approach to a permanent solution for the following reasons: 

• If the protesters are working hard to be seen so that we as a society can provide every member with the necessities (food, clothing, shelter), an organic farm could be a welcomed alternative to the Green.  
• Organic farms assist the city by providing more locally grown agriculture for the region.

If the city could grant the New Haven Land Trust a new community garden specifically for protesters, with the option of allowing the tent encampment occupants to relocate to that location where they would be able to set up permanent structures and have raised beds to grow organic vegetables, the result would be better than to continually engage protesters over the use of space on the Green.

The consensus from the city of New Haven is that permanent structures will need to be removed within a prospective time frame.

Other parks and light agricultural use were also proposed as possibilities for more long term solutions.

Occupy New Haven Public Calendar

A public calendar for Occupy New Haven has been created.  Anyone with a Gmail account can post an event, which then becomes available to the public.  It will be included in with the more mainstream calendars on Nhv.Org, the new website receiving tons of exposure with its new stickering strategy.

If you would like to host an event, simply send a letter via your Gmail account to Nhv.Org@Gmail.Com and you will receive access and instructions on how to post events.  These events will appear both here in this blog as well as on the home and mobile version of Nhv.Org

NHV Occupiers now have their own live blog

Nhv.Org has volunteered some web skills and graphic design skills to configure a live blog for the occupants on the New Haven Green.   They now have the ability to log in via smartphones (for the ones that have them).  They will be able to post pictures, articles, and videos as a community.

A meeting at The Bourse will take place on Monday at 7pm where this plan will be better explained.
